From Delivery Boy to Crorepati Writer: The Unbelievable Rise of Ajit Kumar
Nothing in life ever came easy to Ajit Kumar, but his journey proves that sheer determination—mixed with a little bit of unexpected fate—can completely flip a person’s fortune.
Not long ago, Ajit was a young man in Faridabad, cycling nearly 100 kilometers a day in the scorching heat to deliver food orders for Swiggy. Today, he is the lead writer behind one of India’s most popular audio series on Pocket FM, earning over ₹11 lakh a month and set to become a multi-crorepati.
His story isn’t just about making money; it’s about what happens when a person hits absolute rock bottom and refuses to stay down.
A Dream Cut Short
Growing up in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, before his family moved to Faridabad, Ajit harbored a simple dream: he wanted to become a doctor. His father, a hard-working farmer, had relocated the family to the Delhi-NCR region specifically to give his children a shot at a better education.
Ajit studied hard, picked science after Class 10, and successfully earned his BSc degree. But when he approached his father about pursuing an MSc, reality hit hard. The college demanded ₹2 to ₹3 lakh per year—an amount far beyond his family’s annual income.
“Truth is, education doesn’t just take hard work; it takes money,” Ajit recalled in an emotional video recount.
With the dream of wearing a white lab coat out of reach, Ajit stepped up to support his family. He tried various odd jobs—from working a temporary bank gig to even doing bridal mehendi and makeup design. The banking job helped pay for his elder sister’s wedding, though it left him burdened with a ₹7 lakh loan.
Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit, taking away most of his odd jobs. Drowning in rent, grocery bills, and mounting loan interest, Ajit took the only job available: delivering food on a bicycle.
100 Kilometers a Day on a Bicycle
For months, Ajit worked grueling 16-hour shifts. Rain or shine, he pedaled through the streets of Faridabad to complete around 20 orders every day—cycling nearly 100 kilometers daily just to earn enough to keep his family fed and pay off the loan installments.
Rainy days were his favorite because they meant extra orders and higher tips, even though it meant cycling through waterlogged roads.
Then, just when life seemed as difficult as it could possibly get, tragedy struck.
The Accident That Changed Everything
Ajit was involved in a severe road accident that left him with multiple leg fractures. The injuries were so severe that doctors initially warned him his leg might need to be amputated.
Bedridden, in excruciating pain, and entirely unable to walk—let alone cycle—Ajit felt his world collapsing. The delivery income stopped overnight, but the loan creditors didn’t stop calling. His mother was even preparing to take on more high-interest debt just to pay for his medical treatments.
Desperate to earn anything using just his hands and a phone from his bed, Ajit began searching online for work-from-home jobs. That was when he randomly stumbled upon an ad inviting people to write stories for Pocket FM, an audio streaming platform.
Writing Out of Pure Obsession
Ajit had no formal background in fiction writing, but he had time, urgency, and an incredible imagination. Sitting on his bed with his leg in a cast, he began pouring his heart into story drafts.
“I became so obsessed with writing stories that on some days, I wrote 20,000 words—four to five entire episodes in a single day,” Ajit said.
Three months into his writing journey, one of his stories won a Pocket FM writing contest. The platform sent him his very first writing check of ₹20,000. Crying with relief, he handed every single rupee to his mother.
That single paycheck transformed his outlook—he realized his imagination could do what his legs no longer could.
The Birth of “Brahmyodha” and Stardom
Driven by momentum, Ajit wrote relentlessly. Soon, his story “Brahmyodha: The Destroyer” was picked up as a flagship audio series.
The show exploded in popularity. Listeners fell in love with his characters, world-building, and emotional depth. The payouts started scaling rapidly:
- First, a contest win of ₹20,000
- Next, a performance bonus of ₹52,000
- Then, a life-altering payout of ₹6.29 lakh
Over time, Brahmyodha amassed over 16.8 crore plays across 1,300+ episodes. By mid-2026, the show’s massive reach put it on track to gross over ₹100 crore in platform revenue, making Ajit one of the highest-paid audio creators in India, earning upwards of ₹11 lakh per month.
From Bedridden to the Lit Fest Stage
Ajit’s life has turned around completely. He paid off his family’s ₹7 lakh wedding loan, cleared all medical debts, and secured a comfortable life for his parents.
Earlier this year, the former delivery rider who once had to drop out of college due to lack of funds stood on stage as an invited speaker at the prestigious Jaipur Literature Festival.
“They say the world changes… my world was changing right before my eyes,” Ajit reflects.
His journey from cycling 100 kilometers a day for a few hundred rupees to becoming a crorepati writer proves one thing: when life shuts every door, a new story is waiting to be written.
